Using the Wiki
Most of the time you will be altering an existing page. This is done by clicking on the edit tab at the top of any article on the wiki. The edit tab is found between the discussion and history tabs. If the tab says view source instead of edit, this means the page is locked. Pages on the wiki are supposed to be collaborative spaces. You are encouraged to improve pages. Whatever that may mean to you.
Making New Pages
For starting pages most useful instructions can be found on the Main Page. Generally: 1. Put a title in the search box found in the left nav. 2. Click the "go" button. 3. The system will let you know you can create the page. 4. Tell it ok and have the page made for you under that title. 5. Save it.
Hacking Your Profile
Most useful instructions for personalizing your profile page can be found on the GLOVE Hacks page
Using The Rich Editor
You can enable or disable the rich editor by clicking the links "Rich Editor" and "Open Rich editor in new window" at the top of any edit screen. It will automate a lot of tasks and makes finding internal links much easier. It's worth playing with. You can get back to the normal editor by clicking "Disable rich editor" at the top of the edit page if the rich editor is active.
Current Articles vs Wiki Entries
Current Articles are the Features that we publish at http://artistorganizedart.org/commons. These are written by our correspondents who are frequently artists. They are polished statements that are useful to link to.
Wiki Entries are pages created using the wiki functionality at http://wiki.artistorganizedart.org. They can be made or added to by anyone with an account on the wiki. They are completely collaborative unless locked. These pages are everything from fact pages as you would find in a wikipedia to experimental pages that are artworks, to project pages and user generated help pages. There is really little limitation as to what the wiki pages can be used for by the those who have signed up. We encourage you to make art and to invite others to make art with you using the wiki to coordinate your projects. You can also add documentation of your projects and develop them. We will be watching them and would like to develop Current Articles (Feature Articles) about what you are experimenting with.
All users who sign up on this wiki will have a social profile page. You can group message and create topics in our forums. Learn how to hack your profile above.
What Are Digests
We are adding short digests about our Feature Articles on the wiki. This makes searching more meaningful and allows us to add semantic tags and tailor links that go to the feature and to other references supporting the feature articles being digested.
Editing With Forms
Some pages will have an edit using form tab. These forms request certain fixed information and usually it is our staff that uses them. You can include a form in your page by including the correct category tag.
Helpful Attitudes
Most importantly: you can teach yourself how to do anything you see on the wiki by either clicking on the view source or edit tab and looking at the code. if it works in an existing page... it will work in yours. Don't worry about copying code... it's a good way to learn.
